Christmas before Thanksgiving?

Since Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Guatemala, the Christmas decorations and celebration begins weeks and even months before the actual holiday. We've seen decorations put up in the stores in early October and the large "Gallo" Chrictmas tree was assembled last week close to the airport. Last night we enjoyed the Christmas parade sponsored by one of the major banks on TV from the comforts of the sofa. I was surprised at the expense that was put into the celebration that had very large floats, marching bands and Christmas songs of which many were in English.
It is truly the season to be joyful and thankful for all that God has done in this past year. We are so blessed to be the givers of so much to those that have so little. With that, comes lots of hugs and thank yous from the children and homes that we take food and other donations to. Sometimes it's impossible to give what is needed most...in one case the electricity has been disconnected for over a month and the use of a portable generator requires additional funds for the gasoline. We're in the process of helping to find another location since the situation that exists is very complicated and could be months before it's resolved. Our help is always welcomed but we also lack the funds to bail them out of their situation. Pray that the new location that has been looked at will be able to be moved into quickly.
Sheryl and I have been looking forward to this week for some time now. Our daughter and her family are coming this Wednesday, for a 10 day visit. We've been warned to get our sleep before the grandchildren come....for there will be early risers! Doesn't matter! We love when they come to visit.
We've been visiting a city feeding and education center for a few months on Wednesday mornings to help serve breakfast to the children and have built wonderful relationships with many of the children. Sheryl and I attended their end of school presentation for their parents and were overwhelmed at the memorization and performance abilities that the kids had. There is a mighty work being done that will bring forth fruit!
Our love and prayers come your way, as yours come to us. Thanks
